The system that is being developed is designed for retrofit to diesel multiple unit (DMU) vehicles and uses a Ricardo flywheel unit driven by an Artemis Digital Displacement® pump-motor to capture and then recirculate braking energy.

The July 2014 edition of the The Rail Engineer contains an article by David Shires describing this project. You can read it here.
