26 November 2009 Carbon Trust name Artemis as "Leading Light in UK's Clean Tech Revolution"

Artemis win The Overall Carbon Trust Innovation Award 2009 & the ‘Power’ award

"Scottish technology developer Artemis Intelligent Power, based in Edinburgh has been named overall winner of this year’s Carbon Trust Innovation Awards by an independent panel of renowned clean technology-experts. The judges rigorously assessed each application against a range of strict criteria including genuine innovation, carbon saving potential, novel application and commercial potential." Carbon Trust

"As well as being named overall ‘Innovator of the Year’ Artemis Intelligent Power, won the ‘Power’ award category. This was in recognition of its technology’s potential to produce lightweight, robust power transfer systems which make wind turbines cheaper to build and maintain. Artemis’ technology allows reduction in weight and simplification of power electronics, resulting in lower costs than the current technology."  Carbon Trust

"We are delighted to receive this highly regarded award from the Carbon Trust.  The entire team at Artemis have worked hard to perfect Digital Displacement® technology and the recognition this award brings is very encouraging to us all.

Our technology, which has the potential to greatly improve the economics of offshore wind, has moved a step closer to the market with this success.

It will give us the credibility to engage companies involved in manufacturing for the wind market.  Hopefully the manufacturing and added value this brings can capture some significant fraction of the £3B wind turbine gearbox market.  This would be of benefit the UK and its workforce whilst also reducing reliance on carbon based fuels." Dr. Win Rampen, Managing Director, Artemis Intelligent Power

November 25 2009 Artemis Intelligent Power wins IET Innovation Award

Artemis Intelligent Power was named winner of the Transport Award at the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s (IET) Innovation Awards 2009 last night (25 November) at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. The IET Innovation Awards span 15 categories and attracted over 300 entries from around the world.  They represent a unique opportunity for innovators to be recognised and provide a showcase for the brightest ideas, highlighting the importance of innovation by celebrating its application across a range of engineering disciplines.

October 2009 British Engineering Excellence Awards

The BEEA British Engineering Excellence Awards announced Artemis Intelligent Power as winner of the Green Product of the Year 2009 for its Digital Displacement Hydraulic Hybrid vehicle technology. "Independent tests confirms that in a typical urban environment, the car's fuel consumption was less than half that of a similar car equipped with a manual gearbox. The technology promises to deliver significant fuel consumption reductions, at greatly reduced additional cost compared to electric solutions." BEEA

"The Judges agreed that Artemis has made a significant invention using solenoidal valves and digital control to improve hydraulic coupling. They also agreed that green engineering isn’t always about ‘silver bullets’; rather, it’s about doing things well."

September 2009 £1 Million Award from DECC

Artemis Intelligent Power is awarded a £1 million grant under phase 1 of the Low Carbon Energy Demonstration (LCED) capital grants scheme. The Department of Energy and Climate Change press release

The grant is to enable the transfer of existing Digital Displacement® technology from automotive applications to wind energy applications.

Waverley Cameron, Chairman of Artemis Intelligent Power said:

"This kind of targeted support by government enables small R&D companies like Artemis to develop the breakthrough technologies needed to bring Britain to the forefront of the low carbon revolution. The Artemis Digital Displacement® technology will provide cost effective solutions to some of the most challenging engineering problems facing the large scale deployment of offshore wind, wave and tidal power generation."

All Energy 09

All Energy '09, 20-21 May in Aberdeen. We demonstrated our unique Digital Displacement® hydraulic hybrid vehicle – a BMW saloon driven by our ultra-efficient digital hydraulic motors with accumulator energy storage, which is proven to reduce fuel consumption in urban driving by more than 50%, at much lower cost than electric hybrids. With this technology, we aim to make hybrids an economic, not a lifestyle choice. Dr Win Rampen made a presentation on this topic between 16:00 and 17:30 in the Sustainable Transport session on Wednesday.

The same technology powers our revolutionary digital hydraulic wind turbine transmission, which is now being tested in the lab in preparation for a full-scale demonstration. We'll be presenting this concept and what it can offer the wind industry at the TUV-NEL stand (F13).
