Artemis Intelligent Power Ltd. is a rapidly expanding R&D company based in Edinburgh and a recently acquisition of Mitsubishi Power Systems Europe. We believe we have Scotland’s fastest-growing patent portfolio and need to add to our in-house IP capability as we develop the next generation of wind turbines and hybrid vehicles.

Mitsubishi and Artemis recently announced a project to develop a new generation of large offshore wind turbines, built around Digital Displacement® technology and developed in the Edinburgh area.

This role or roles would suit scientists or engineers with a strong post-graduate record and an interest in IP in a dynamic commercial environment where IP forms the backbone of the business. There will be a wide variety of work across many technical disciplines, so flexibility and a willingness to learn are essential.

Responsibilities

• Capturing new inventions,
• prior art searching and analysis,
• helping our attorneys draft patents,
• competitive patent intelligence,
• assisting with patent prosecution,
• portfolio reporting,
• producing technical drawings,
• other duties as required.

Personal attributes

• A very high standard of written English is absolutely required, along with an ability to communicate very clearly.
• A thorough approach to work, strong concentration and very well organised with a willingness to document work.
• A breadth of technical insight, analytical ability, probably through high quality postgraduate study in the physical sciences or engineering.
• A willingness to learn, in depth, about new technical fields.
• Formal training or prior experience in patenting is highly desirable; otherwise a genuine interest in IP must be demonstrated.
• Demonstrable skills in technical artwork, patent drafting and prior art searching are desirable.
• Good German, Japanese, Chinese and/or French are desirable but not necessary.
• The ability to work in a challenging environment within a dedicated and experienced team.

Qualifications & Experience

• Very good postgraduate degree in physical sciences or engineering.
• Desirable: Certificate or Diploma in IP Practice or similar.
• No commercial experience is required, but candidates with some are still invited to apply.

Location

The successful candidate will primarily work within Artemis’s office in Loanhead, or a Mitsubishi Centre for Advanced Technology office to be located in the Lothians area.
